Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age. However, there are some signs to look out for that may indicate you’re having one. The sooner you get medical treatment after a stroke, Dr Julian Sargon-Ungar the better your chances of recovery.
Sudden Confusion Or Trouble Speaking
Confusion is a sign that something is wrong. It can be caused by many things, including strokes. If you are confused, it’s important to get medical attention right away.
If you’re confused and not sure why, it may be a symptom of stroke or another serious condition such as dementia.
Unexplained, Sudden Severe Headache With No Other Symptoms
A sudden, severe headache that is not relieved by resting is a sign of stroke, according to Dr Julian Sargon-Ungar. This type of headache can be accompanied by neck ache or stiffness, but it’s important to note that these things are not always present and the pain itself can vary from person to person (e.g., some people experience sharp pain while others feel like they have a constant pressure).
If this symptom occurs suddenly and without any other signs or symptoms of stroke–such as weakness on one side of your body–it warrants immediate medical attention because it could indicate an impending stroke or brain hemorrhage (bleeding).
Sudden Trouble Seeing In One Or Both Eyes
If you experience sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, it could be a sign of a stroke. This can happen with any of the following symptoms:
• Double vision (seeing two images instead of one)
• Blurred vision
• Loss of vision in one eye that lasts longer than 24 hours
Sudden Trouble Walking, Dizziness, Loss Of Balance And Coordination
If you suddenly have trouble walking or feel dizzy, it could be a sign that you’re having a stroke. Dizziness can come on suddenly without warning and last for only a few seconds to minutes before going away again.
It may cause you to feel lightheaded or like the room is spinning around you (vertigo). If this happens often over several days or weeks at a time, contact your doctor as soon as possible because there could be an underlying issue causing these symptoms.
